Who we are
Founded in 1950, Sunset Beach Christian Church is a non-denominational community of believers on the North Shore of O’ahu dedicated to glorifying God by making disciples of Jesus Christ.
*By disciple, we mean someone who embraces Him as Savior (their only hope of eternal salvation), Treasure (desiring Him above all else), and Lord (worshiping and obeying Him in every area of their lives).
Vision
We aim to be a Jesus-centered, Spirit-empowered, Mission-driven community where the Word of God is taught faithfully, and every member is actively ministering to others, both inside and outside the church.
Core Values & Practices
-
We value the faithful and constant proclamation of the true gospel of Jesus Christ for the glory of God and the salvation of souls.
-
We value the clear, accurate and passionate teaching of the whole counsel of God’s Word as contained in the Bible.
-
We value the observance of the ordinances including baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
-
We value regular and devoted prayer and worship, both corporate and private.
-
We value doing life together and using our gifts to build each other up as co-members of the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12-31)
OUR CORE BELIEFS…
The gospel is the power of God unto salvation, and is to be kept central to our faith (Romans 1, Galatians 1, 1 Corinthians 15)
Sinners are saved by grace, through faith in Jesus, not by good works (Ephesians 2:8-9)
God’s plan for us is to make us more like Jesus (Romans 8:29), and we are called to grow in holiness and victory over sin (Romans 6:1-2).
Christians are called to live in community with one another in the context of a local body (church) (Acts 2:42-47).
All followers of Jesus are called to make more followers of Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17-18; Matthew 28:19-20)
The Bible is the inspired, inerrant word of God (2 Tim. 3:16)
There is one true God, Creator of heaven and earth, who is revealed in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Gen. 1:26, Luke 1:35, 3:21-22, 2 Cor. 13:14, Matt. 28:18-20).
Jesus is the King of Kings (1 Timothy 6:15) and the only way to salvation (John 14:6). He was born of a virgin as God in the flesh (Isa. 7, Phil. 2), lived a sinless life (Heb. 4:15), died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins (1 Peter 2:24, 2 Cor. 5:21), was bodily resurrected on the third day (1 Corinthians 15, Luke 24), and is seated at the right hand of God the Father (Col. 3:1, Rom. 8:34), until He returns some day to rule and reign on the earth (Matthew 24-25, etc.).

Staff and Leadership
-
A “pastor” (or “elder” or “overseer”) is a man who meets the biblical qualifications laid out in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, and who is appointed to lead, shepherd, teach and care for God’s people in a local church.
Biblically, there is no distinction in office between a “pastor” and and “elder”, but for the sake of clarity we as a church choose to differentiate the respective roles since our senior pastor is tasked uniquely with preaching and leadership responsibility.
-
We have a team of amazing staff members who handle the day-to-day operations, including managing finances, maintaining church grounds, coordinating events, facilitating teams, and providing support to the pastor.
Biblically, our staff would fall generally under what the Bible calls “deacons” (1 Timothy 3:8-12).
-
No. We are an independent church that is governed by a plurality of elders.

Special place, special calling…
We take seriously the fact that God has placed us here on the North Shore, and we have a heart to be a blessing to this unique community around us. Jesus said, “go and make disciples of all nations”, and one of the amazing things about the North Shore is that, as a focal point for surfing and travel, the nations come to us! This gives us the distinct opportunity (and responsibility!) to reach people from many different cultures and places with the gospel, realizing that many of our visitors will take it home with them and reach even more people for Jesus!
You might be wondering…
-
No.
Whether you’re a skeptic, an atheist, into new age, or have just had a bad run with ‘organized religion’, we want you to know that this is a safe place for you to come and seek answers. We just ask that you be respectful, and don’t try to gain any followers!
-
We’ve got folks from all walks of life (and many different cultures!), but we tend to have a majority of young adults and young families.
-
There is a small parking lot on the church grounds but it does tend to fill quickly. We suggest arriving early if you want to park in the lot, otherwise there is street parking along the highway. If you park on the Mauka side of the highway, please avoid parking too close to neighbor’s driveways!

You can check out our weekly campus calendar on our home page or visit our connect page and a member will be in touch to help get you plugged in.
You can also do it the organic way and simply start showing up, making friends, and looking for ways to serve!

On Sunday mornings, we have a nursery for ages 4 and under.
For older kids, it is on our heart to keep them in the service with us so that they can worship and grow alongside their parents and others in the body of Christ! Our outdoor atmosphere makes this less intimidating, and there are also coloring pages and things for the keiki who get especially restless!
We have Kid’s Church at 9:15am before our main service.
During the week, we have a homeschool co-op on Wednesdays at 9:30am (check our weekly calendar for updates) as well as other youth and family events throughout the year.
Youth Group for Jr. High and High School happens first and third Fridays, 6:30pm on campus. Check for updates.
