Sunset Beach Christian Church - Membership Form
Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of Sunset Beach Christian Church! Sometimes church can be viewed simply as a “club” to join–you do things for the club, and the club will do things for you. For others, they’d describe church as a “family”, where everyone does life together and demonstrates love and acceptance. In reality, both of these metaphors fall short.
According to the Bible, a church is like a “body” where each body part (or ‘member’) is vital to the others (1 Corinthians 12:14-21). If one member of the body suffers, the whole body suffers (1 Corinthians 12:26). Moreover, each member has an important role to play in order for the body to function properly (Romans 12:4-8).
We take it very seriously that you are interested in joining this local body of believers at Sunset Beach Christian Church. We want you to understand that when you commit to our church, you are committing to the people of our church, and they are committing to you.
We strongly recommend that you attend services regularly for at least 2 months before submitting this form.
Please read our description of a church member carefully below!
After you submit the form below, a pastor will follow up with you.
A member of our church is someone who is:
A genuine follower of Jesus Christ who has affirmed the gospel and has evidence in their life of true conversion.
Committed to Sunset as ‘their church’.
Sees themselves not only as an attendee, but as a vital member of this local body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12-31).
Romans 12:5 says, "so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. "
Mutually accountable to fellow believers within our church, so that we can all encourage one another to embrace Jesus as Savior, Treasure and Lord.
One way to put it is: church membership is where the attitude “none of your business” goes to die! We are all interconnected.
Willfully places themselves under the leadership of this church (pastors and elders), for example, if it comes to issues of church discipline and/or interpersonal conflict among members within the church (Matthew 18 & Hebrews 10:17-18).
Committed to supporting the mission of SBCC (through prayer, giving, serving, etc.).
Feels a sense of ownership over the future welfare and direction of this ministry.
Wants to grow in embracing Jesus as Savior, Treasure and Lord, and help others do the same.
Wants to live out the mission of Jesus in everyday life (Matthew 28:18-20, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21)
In agreement with our core beliefs:
The Bible is the inspired, inerrant word of God (2 Tim. 3:16).
There is one true God, Creator of heaven and earth, who is revealed in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Gen. 1:26, Luke 1:35, 3:21-22, 2 Cor. 13:14, Matt. 28:18-20).
Jesus is the King of Kings (1 Timothy 6:15) and the only way to salvation (John 14:6). He was born of a virgin as God in the flesh (Isa. 7, Phil. 2), lived a sinless life (Heb. 4:15), died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins (1 Peter 2:24, 2 Cor. 5:21), was bodily resurrected on the third day (1 Corinthians 15, Luke 24), and is seated at the right hand of God the Father (Col. 3:1, Rom. 8:34).
The power and centrality of the gospel in salvation (Romans 1, Galatians 1, 1 Corinthians 15).
Sinners are saved by grace, through faith in Jesus, not by good works (Ephesians 2:8-9).
God’s plan for us is to make us more like Jesus (Romans 8:29).
Christians are called to live in community with one another in the context of a local body (church) (Acts 2:42-47).
All followers of Jesus are called to make more followers of Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17-18; Matthew 28).
In alignment with our core values:
The faithful and constant proclamation of the true gospel of Jesus Christ
The clear, accurate and passionate teaching of the whole counsel of God’s Word
The observance of the ordinances including baptism and the Lord’s Supper
Prayer and worship, both corporate and private
Participation in Christ centered community (church commitment and involvement)
Every member living as ministers of the gospel in everyday life
